This book was such a pleasant surprise! I had read the first few pages a couple of summers ago, but then set it aside because I wasn't in the mood for it at the time. Because of that, I was reluctant to pick it up again. But I'm so glad I did. Lately I've read so much mediocre, forgettable middle grade, but this one was a stand-out. The story was interesting, if a bit unbelievable. You definitely have to suspend your disbelief that the two girls could have gotten away with taking care of themselves for that long. I loved the characters and found Stella and Angel both to be so endearing, and the writing was vivid and pretty without being flowery. The end definitely made me tear up. Such an incredibly satisfying little book, and a perfect summer read!
