Maybe because I too am an obsessive/depressive, I got into Jonathan Ames' world and felt very comfortable there. I wanted to be his friend, to be there for the fun and the floundering. I love it, as I've said a zillion times before, when smart people make foolish choices, even if many of Ames' choices were as much for their storytelling potential as for his own needs. Maybe.

It seems to easy to compare him to Sedaris, but he is like Sedaris for people who watch South Park instead of listening to NPR.
