Kspeare Although Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series is wildly popular due to HBO's True Blood TV series, count me as one of the many readers who consider the Lily Bard/Shakespeare series her finest writing. Darker and with a much drier wit than Sookie, Lily has overcome immense tragedy by the start of this first in the series, but still has a long way to go in her healing.

The mystery, characters, and social observations in this series are finely drawn and totally engaging. The comment one frequently hears is, "I read the first one, then went straight to the bookstore and read the rest in a week." That has nothing to do with the length of the books, so be warned. Lay in a supply of frozen dinners and enjoy.
