This Newberry Medal Winning story is about 11 year old Marty Preston and what happens when he stumbles upon a lost beagle puppy. Not allowed to have a dog, he finds the owner - a neighbor, Judd Travers and returns Shiloh (he names him) only to discover that he is mistreated. Marty is unable to get Shiloh out of his every waking thoughts and when Shiloh shows up again - Marty builds a secret shelter and keeps Shiloh. An unfortunate incident reveal Marty's secret. Now as he tries to save Shiloh's life He must also find a way to keep him. I couldn't put the book down - one moment I was laughing out loud and the next I was crying and all along I cheered for Marty & Shiloh! An absolute read for everyone - especially for anyone who has ever loved a dog!
