it was amazing

I want to teach with Donalyn Miller. I want my child to be in her class. I want to sit and talk with her about books, children, and the importance of relationships between the two. Mostly, I want to help make her vision of reading instruction a reality in every classroom, at least in every classroom at my school. Sadly, I don't know how to make that happen.

I have a passion for books. I read them, I talk about them, I recommend them. But most teachers in my building do not read for pleasure themselves. How can they possibly instill that love in their students? I can only be thankful that most if not all of our English teachers are readers. I'm not sure that all of them are brave enough to embrace all of the Book Whisperer's teaching techniques in place of book reports and more, but I hope some of them will be. I will share this book with them in hopes that they will catch the fire and begin to steal classroom minutes for reading, begin to whisper books into the ears of students, begin to build real lifelong readers.
