Precious, by Saphire, narrated byBahni Turpin, produced by Books on Tape, downloaded from audible.com.

Precious is a 16-year-old African American teenager pregnant with her second child, both through rapes by her father. Her mother also abuses her, blaming her for her father taking up with her “taking away my man” as her mother puts it. She is expelled from public school but is sent to an alternative school which is the saving of her. A wonderful teacher bullies and pushes her to learn to read and to journal her thoughts and words. Her second baby is born. She finds out her father is dead from AIDS, and she is HIV positive. She lives hand to mouth on the street, but she pushes ever forward to finish her GED so she can go to college. An inspiring book, and the narrator definitely does it justice.
