A detective tries to solve a murder but is hindered by the fact that it may have occurred in a different city in a different nation that lies physically (or grosstopically, as he puts it) on top of his own. He ends up being embroiled in a far greater conspiracy that could go back to the foundings of the city and the city.

This book started off slow for me, and I found the dialog confusing at times, even outside of the fact that the setting was so surreal. Things picked up with the folklore became involved, and though the solution was (a little spoilery.....) kind of mundane after all the intrigue, I enjoyed the end for Tyador.
