Perotta's talent with introducing quirky flawed characters in his storylines is both entertaining and impressive, but he has yet to match the light pacing and dark comedic quality of Election. Joe College was a close second, but Abstinence Teacher falls short. The book is enjoyable; the characters are likable, the storyline is entertaining but Perotta was not able to executive the same level of comedic character interaction and chemistry as he did for Election.
Although the ending was purposefully left open for interpretation, it feels incomplete and leaves the reader dissatisfied.
Despite this novel's shortcomings, I would recommend this read. It is an entertaining, fast read. Perotta remains a master in his craft.
