really liked it
Read from February 11 to 13, 2010

The positive: A lot tighter than the first offering. Funnier, darker, with more at stake and much better characterization.

The negative: Okay, I get that these are written for kids. However, even (perhaps especially) in kids/YA, there is still a level of...not sophistication, but at least craft that I expect from jokes/references to mythology. This clumsy sort of almost-punny humor is why I struggled through Heck: Where the Bad Kids Go, and it was a bit of a problem in this book and the previous one.

The summary: My favorite of the series so far (not saying much, but still); proof that it was worth beginning.
