it was amazing

It's always easier for me to learn about history through historical fiction. I like how the author cited real historical happenings by placing fictional Jin aka Regret in so many of them.I was surprised to google Joe Kahahawai and find that the trial actually happened. I am of Hawaiian ancestry yet there is so much I don't know about that line. I am grateful to Brennert for enlightening me concerning the history of the animosity between Hawaiians and "haoles" as well as the integral part the early immigrants played in Hawaiian history. I also learned alot about Korean history, the Japanese occupation, and picture brides. The book is well written and the story is intriguing enough to keep picking it up and reading. I will now go back and read his other book, Molokai.
