I was fairly underwhelmed during this book, from start to end. While it paints a big question mark at the beginning in order to draw readers in, the winding narrative goes so far off the beaten track of the author discovering himself (often to the point of 'thinking aloud' throughout the text, rather gratingly) that it's easy to lose sight of the entire story that is being told. Instead, readers are faced with a self-absorbed narrator who flits between reassuring himself and seeking reassurance from those around him at a maddening pace.

While, like the usual Coelho novels, it carries broad inspirational themes and of bettering oneself, it's not one I'd readily recommend.
