Chris Is this the character from the recent movie starring Andy Lau?

Yes. Van Gulik wrote a whole series of novels based on the real-life T'ang judge Di Renjie. There's a 1974 movie called "Judge Dee and the Monastery Murders" with Khigh Dhiegh in the title role (you might know him better as Wo Fat from "Hawaii 5-O" or the Chinese hypnotist from the original "Manchurian Candidate").

I'd love to see PBS or the BBC (or their East Asian equivalent) do a series based on these books.

Have you seen the new movie? Is it any good?

Chris No, I haven't seen it yet. I really enjoyed Red Cliff, and this one looks good too.

Terence If you liked "Red Cliff," you might enjoy "The Warrior" and "Warriors of Heaven and Earth".
