After the unbelievable hype that accompanied the publication of The Jane Austen Book Club, I've been very wary of books that invoke Jane Austen's name in any way. So, it was with trepidation I picked up Cathleen Schine's new novel which was publicized as an "homage" to Sense and Sensibility.

NOT TO WORRY: this is a charming, emminently readable contemporary novel. And, it is possible to parallel it to an Austen saga with a struggling family of women facing a series of disappointed romances, financial failures and personal follies.

It was a wonderful story that never seemed trite or too predictable; I enjoyed every element of this book, especially the wonderful family member, Cousin Lou.
