it was ok

This book started well, moving quickly and confidently through the formation of the Knights and their mission in Palestine, supporting the European occupation there, but faltered in the latter stages: once the persecution of the order begins, the books becomes a morass of over-specific details of trial testimony, larded heavily with the author's personal views of the proceedings. Names and places become a blur, and the sense of outrage that permeates the narrative begins to overwhelm any real historical overview. A worthwhile resource for historians interested in the Knights and their times, but not a good choice for the casual reader indulging his or her curiousity...
