Well, I’m unfortunately a long way from being in uniformity with God’s will. Then again, I’m not entirely sure I agree that God wills every horrible thing that happens to us or that we should accept suffering quietly. (St. Alphonsus wouldn’t make much of a psalmist.) But Christ does tell us not to worry, and Paul tells us to learn to be content, so I am trying to put some of this book into practice. However, I think it takes a saint…

Well, there are saints and then there are saints...I don't think all people are called to be saints in the same *sense* of men and women like those the Catholics call saints, anymore than I think all men are called to be pastors or teachers. I don't think a saint must assume every calamity is God's will. Where then would come the social-changing rage against injustice? There should be saints like this Alphonsus de Liguori, but other types of saints as well.

I agree that it takes a saint, but we're all called to be saints and by God's grace we can.
