An unusual novel for Christie in that the characters are more defined than she usually writes. They're not as fully fleshed as they'd need to be to make this literary fiction and they all have unlikely characteristics, but it's approaching 2.5 dimensional rather than her usual 2 dimensional.

As for the story, well its HP at the detective, but really it would have been better if he'd been left out, the actual solving and untangling of the murder is done by the other character, and it seems like he was added for sales purposes.

Actually, didn't Christie say she'd wished she'd not had him in either?

Plch I read that the first thing she did when adapting ths novel for the stage was to cut Poirot out of it.
