bookshelves: dreadful-books

There are many reasons why the publishing industry works in the manner that it does, why reputable publishers pay their authors, not vice versa, and why editors, literary agents and proof readers all have respectable incomes. "Something Wicked This Way Comes" summarises all of these reasons succinctly.

This book is, in a word, terrible. The prose is clichéd, clumsy and in many cases almost entirely grammar-free. The plot, so far as it has any to speak of, is banal, and the pace is about as exciting as the author's peculiar pseudonym. In fact, it says a lot about this book that the story of Cuger Brant, on the back cover, takes up more space than the blurb about the book itself.

If you enjoyed this book, however unlikely that circumstance might be, you will be pleased to know that the irrepressible Cuger has disgorged a whole library of similarly awful "novels". Otherwise, treat this book (and all other vanity published dross) as though it were toilet paper of the very lowest grade.
