Read 2 times. Last read January 30, 2010 to February 2, 2010.

I really liked this book in the beginning. Spooner as a child was a fun character, but the man he became was so disconnected from the child that he was. It was totally unbelievable. There were too many little side stories that did nothing to move the plot or develop the characters.

It reminded me a bit of "Forrest Gump" in some ways. There is this kid who seems to be slow who has all of these great opportunities open up for him in life, opportunities that just fell into his lap. Then Spooner changed and is suddenly this bright, successful adult. It just didn't fit.

The book went on too long and it was almost painful to read during the last 80 pages or so.
