To Kill a Mockingbird
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Harper Perennial Modern Classics 1970) (Fiction). This unforgettable Southern classic of racial tension, violence, and prejudice won a Pulitzer Prize in 1960. It's the story of a Atticus Finch, a good man and a good lawyer in a small town in Alabama, who in 1935 defended a Black man accused of rape by a White woman, and the results of the trial upon the town. Interesting trivia: for reasons known only to her, this is the only book that author Harper Lee ever wrote. She never penned another. (NOTE: This was obviously disproven by the publication in 2015 of Go Set A Watchman.) My rating: 7.5/10, finished 1972.
