This volume collects the first two years of the Family Circus. It is interesting to see how the cartoon developed and how the characters have changed. The biggest change probably is the design and characterization of the father who started out as an overweight smoker and drinker. Most of the early cartoons focus on the father's interaction with his children and the hassles of life and starts to fall into the "classic" Family Circus by the end of the book. The book also contains background on Keane and how his life influenced the cartoon.
