This was a very compelling read, especially having read Oryx & Crake and wanted to work our where the characters in this novel matched up with characters in that novel. This was actually a little distracting and, though not the fault of MA but my own, sort of detracted from my enjoyment of the novel.

I found myself a little unable to accept the continued intersection of the characters' lives and I would have been more interested in how different pockets survived the waterless flood. I am, after all, rather a big fan of the post-apocalyptic-disaster-survival subset of sci-fi.

This is a very interesting sci-fi, though heavy-handed in its messages and finger-wagging about what is currently wrong with the world. The heavy-handedness is a little disappointing: you can do better than that MA!

And there must be a sequel, right?
