really liked it
bookshelves: fiction, historical-romance, mystery

So, can Maisie Dobbs be my best friend? Because her organized way of approaching life is fabulous, even if it is covering up past tragedies that her first big case as a detective forces her to revisit. A subtle mystery, Winspear's heroine is calm, cool and collected at all times. In many ways, the novel evokes it's time period, even when it doesn't seem to. I couldn't help seeing the battlefields it takes place on; both in rain-drenching 1917 France and the dry, hot 1929 summer of London and Kent.
