This book is written in stream of consciousness and is similar to James Joyce's writings, some of William Faulkner, and Thomas Wolfe's "Look Homeward Angel"

It's about the exploitation of black people in the plantation system of the West Indies in the 1940's. The prose is beautiful but I found it slow moving.
