This book weaves together the stories of several civilizations and intersperses it with a LOT of bullfighting. I was interested by some of the subjects written about, especially the Spanish Inquisition and bits of the Mexican Indian part, but since it was fictional, I didn't know what was true or not (as in, the Mexican Indian tribe he spends hundreds of pages on is just concocted from bits and pieces of other Indian tribes, so you don't know what is true at all, which makes you wonder about the accuracy of all the subject matter). I think I prefer historical fiction that is more obviously grounded in history. And less long winded.
