Read this one with an elementary book group. Definitely a page turner, but the ending let me down as it was really a beginning -- of a series; one that I don't have any interest in continuing as the topic is not that interesting to me.

It's a futuristic totalitarian society where families are only allowed 2 kids by law. Third and fourth children are "shadow children" and the protagonist of Among the Hidden is one these. Luke has never been to school, never ridden in a car, never been off his family's property. He meets another shadow child, Jen, who lives in a newly built development near his house. Jen doesn't share his fear of being discovered and wants to try to change things by forcing the gov't to change the 2-child law. Things don't go well for her or her plan but her bravery and optimism affect Luke in a life-changing way. He makes a tough choice that will take him on a journey to try and help all the Shadow Children.
