it was ok
bookshelves: first-reads

I won this book through First Reads. I was not overly impressed with it.

I really enjoyed the fact that it took place in South Africa. I do not know much about the culture and the way of life there, so learning about it was interesting. The main family in the book is American, who are in hiding from gambling debts in America. Then there are gangsters, druggies, corrupt cops, bascially the underworld of South Africa. The bad cop realizes that the family is on the run and kidnaps their young son. The mother is sick of being on the run and wants to turn herself in. The father is trying to stay on the run and keep the family safe.

Although interesting, I would not read it again. I found myself skipping pages and just wanting to finish the book. The ending did surprise me.
