Well I finally finished this tome, not exactly an easy read, the tale of Malazan books are built around a huge, expansive mythology that almost overwhelms the story. Erikson's writing is occasionally frustrating in the layers of layers of mythology that yearns for a companion book to help you figure out who is who and what is what, yet it is also very good, the characters are well realized, the story telling solid, world building impressive. I do appreciate and enjoy how Erikson wraps up his tales and each book is a complete story. I have to admit to this being my least favourite book of the first three Malazan novels, it distinctly sags in the middle, however I still enjoyed the tale.
