did not like it

I don't know why I picked up a second "Elephant and Piggie" book. I can't understand with the speech bubbles and exclamation points why these two friends seem to be yelling at each other. You would think I'm misreading all of the textual clues, but it really does seem like they're shouting all of the time!

Connie They probably are shouting. They're little kids.

This book is written as an "Easy Reader". Kids this age are learning to write. Ever see a first grader or a kindergartener write? Every other line HAS to end with an exclamation point!!!! Because you're excited!!!

Also, having such D r a m a t i c ! speech can help alleviate a major problem in book reading with young kids - they read everything in a boring, bland monotone. That's a big problem!

In this book, excluding interjections, greetings, and the game of tag, Piggie and Gerald only yell at each other for a few pages when Piggie is made at Gerald for breaking her toy. (You'd yell too.)
