really liked it

I may not have been well-served to have seen this movie before I read the book. After all, Fincher made this novel into something amazing on screen. I believe that this might be one of those rare times when the book just doesn't match up.

Not that I didn't like the book, because I did. For so few pages (218 to be exact) it packs a punch. Palahniuk's literary voice is very distinct as Cormac McCarthy or Stephen King. I'm not sure I can come up with any new words to describe it, but it is, in fact RAW, GRITTY, VISCERAL, ANGRY. It is 218 pages of a ranting, raving, disillusioned young man. It is dark. It is different, and in the land of a million books about dysfunctional families and angsty teen love triangles, this is a good thing.
