Not at all what I was expecting! This is not a fantasy Viking-inspired adventure, as the cover implies. It's actually a carefully crafted Norse mystery. A king's three children are hidden at a fjord for winter with guards for protection. But treachery soon threatens the lives of everyone. A traitor is among them, but who is it and will they survive this winter?

Icefall started off a bit slow, with lots of character and setting development, and not much plot. Somehow, though, it took hold of me. I soon found myself engaged in heated conversations with a fellow reader, tossing around theories of who the traitor might be. These character were rich, and this story was wholly compelling.

I highly recommend it for readers who enjoy a more advanced, slowly unfolding story.
