it was amazing

I really enjoyed this book. I can be a bit hit and miss with Historical Fiction because sometimes it is written well, and others it is done appallingly. 'Pure' is one of those books which refers to events of the past, but in a completely relateable way (without being patronizing). It tells the story of a young engineer, barely starting in his field and looking to advance his career. He is tasked with the job of digging up and destroying 'Les Innocents', a well-known Church and graveyard that is no longer in use. In the year that he is at Paris, he makes new friends, encounters many horrors and even finds love. Miller's writing style is so natural, so understandable that it gripped me. The imagery as well is just so clever and vivid that it is easy to imagine each scene that is set (and some of them are quite horrifying). A fantastic read, and I can't wait to delve into another of his books!
