This book has a very slow beginning. If you are looking for a repeat of Altered Carbon, this isn't it. In fact, while the style is different it is actually hard to tell that this is the same author. But I had my hopes up after Altered Carbon so I waded through the beginning.

You know those alien bits that were mentioned in passing in Altered Carbon? Mr. Morgan gets to it in this book. And it is placed on the backdrop of war and business (when aren't those two together?). In fact, the play between academic interests and the company backing necessary to even perform the research is written exceedingly well.

Frankly, from about the middle on was amazing. And even the beginning wasn't that slow if it isn't compared to Altered Carbon. I felt that the murder mystery was kinda tacked on but it was okay.

If you are just insanely curious about the alien stuff that was just mentioned in Altered Carbon, I'd put this on your reading list right away. If not, save it for here and there reading.
