it was amazing

Reminiscent of Georgette Heyer's classic regency tales, Beneath the Mask offers us the pampered willful younger daughter of an impoverished earl with a rare passion for dance. When her father fires her dancing master, telling her it's time to grow up and become the lady she was bred to be, Daphne begins a life of subterfuge as the masked dancer.

She catches the eye of Jasper Pendleton, a man of money but no significant title, which his mother has decided he will gain by marriage. He has no desire to be shackled to a society flower, yet he can't help but think of the advantages, like getting his mother silenced while continuing his current lifestyle. Past mistresses aside, Jasper is determined to unveil the masked dancer and make her his own. She has other plans.

This tale has many twists and turns that ramp up the tension in believable ways. A regency romance to remember.
