I recently discovered books two and three of this trilogy. I loved the first book when I read it as a pre-teen and have enjoyed it several times since. I was delighted to step back into Sam and Frightful's world with this book. Again, the natural lore is smoothly interwoven into the story of Sam's adventures in the wild. This time his sister is with him and she is a delightful character. I don't feel that this second book is as strong as the first. Perhaps because I'm not experiencing it through more child like eyes? I don't know. Several aspects of the story felt a little forced. I still really enjoyed it though and would recommend it to fans of the first novel as well as her others.
