bookshelves: biography-memoirs

Depressing and scary-as-hell memoir from author and illustrator David Small. In this graphic novel, Small recounts his childhood and growing up with his angry and cruel mother. The turning point for Small was when his parents neglected to take care of a then-thought-to-be benign cyst in his neck that ended up being cancerous and the physical and emotional fall-out Small experienced after the operation.

Maybe a tad too unrelentless (was his mother really that awful all the time?) and there are some unanswered questions to his story (did his voice ever fully recover?), but Small's story is fascinating and his artwork magnificant.
