omg - this is trite, commercial, and WEIRD. I've never actually read The Clique, but I thought I'd try these in anticipation of our upcoming 'Friends and Other Enemies' genre study discussion. I think this spinoff series actually moves a little too far outside of the normal mean girl genre stuff to be useful for that.

All of the references were so August 2009 I felt myself having to look up multiple things on each page (Demi Lovato references? Really?) until I felt too old and dumb to continue.

I get that this is ephemeral lit - but won't this be unreadable by 2012?

Sonia Reppe I don't remember hearing of this series and don't plan on reading it, but Demi Lovato is huge in teen culture as a singer and actress, and she's talented, so maybe you have to watch the Disney channel more often.

Kelli Robinson I am reading it in 2012 and I am missing most of the pop culture references. This may be because I don't watch enough Disney channel. I don't see that changing in the near future so I guess I must struggle through the book without the benefit of the references.
