This really makes me think about how my diet has changed over my lifetime and some of the forces that influenced how my father farmed a traditional family farm in Ohio in the 1950s and -60s. He raised beef cattle, sheep, some hogs, sometimes chickens for eggs and a few milk cows for cream. Our animals were mostly grass and hay fed with some corn. We didn't have much cash but there was always a nice roast on the table for Sunday dinner and plenty of vegetables from a large garden. We speculated whether the odd form of leukemia that he died from in 1968 was related to the pesticides he used.
