really liked it
bookshelves: i-own
Read from September 18 to November 11, 2010

I didn't enjoy this as much as I've enjoyed other of Mr. Mieville's novels. I wasn't caught up in the story, or enthralled by his use of language as I have been in the past. But it's still a well-written, superbly original tale full of amazing (and often very frightening) characters. Honestly this may be more well-written than his books I've rated higher in the past. I am an admitted book snob, but I have also come to realize that I have a tendency toward greater enjoyment of books that others refer to as "over-written". It's a failing, but what can I say? At least I've recognized it, do with it what you will. And go read something by China Mieville if you haven't already. He is an amazingly original, creative, imaginative writer - and there are fewer and fewer of those around lately.
