This book is quite outdated. I kept thinking 'third rock from the sun....' and so it wasn't THAT funny. I suppose others who saw this sitcom will agree, even if 'third rock ..' was aliens on earth and this book is humans in space travelling along with very ingeniously crafted alien characters who seem quite similar to a lot of political and other famous characters who inhabited 'Earth' during the time the book came out.

It is funny, and surely must have seemed hilarious in 1979. It is also clear now who had the first say on satire of this caliber; unfortunately, my mind has been clouded by all the copy cats I've read to fully appreciate it.

The second book 'Restaurant at ..' was actually better than the first.

Worth a read. Recommended to lovers of science fiction that leads nowhere but is humorous.
