really liked it

Finally! I finished this big monster!!! Started it two years ago, got too overwhelmed with all the suffering, and finally picked it back up last month. I had to re-read about 300 pages to get back in the flow, so it made a very long book (1087 pages) even longer! Anyway, as with all Michener books, it gives a deep feel of the place over time. I was familiar with Israel's history during the Old and New Testament eras, but wanted to see the whole sweep, from the beginning (minus the caveman) to the period of modern statehood. The book also tried to probe the heart and mind of Judaism, which I always wish to better understand, especially after reading books like "The Chosen." I'm glad I read it.
