Read in November, 2009

The setting description was overdone, the plot was like a soap opera, the tragedies were so overdone I found myself giggling through a couple of death scenes, and all the characters (except for Justine) needed to be punched in the face. Also I couldn't much see what the author's _point_ was, except maybe that men suck and God sucks and since God is a man, apparently, He must doubly suck.

And yet -- I found myself enjoying the read; it was like watching a train wreck. I wouldn't recommend the book, but I'm not sorry I read it, and I'm looking forward to watching the miniseries with the other member of my Book Club. ;-)

kari I read this one years ago, I think as a teen and while I did enjoy it, I think all you said is exactly true. It is melodramatic. None of the men in this are good, oh wait, except for the pure young son and we knows what happened to him!
