I just like reading Miriam Toews - her characters are honest, funny, and imperfectly human! This is another delightful book that made me giggle out loud on the subway as I was reading it. Her characters' relationships are flawed and messy, as is reality. The main character of this books was an 18-year-old single-mother living in Winnipeg social housing and struggling with motherhood, mosquitoes, and the eternal question of happiness - possibly miserable topics for a book, but Toews filled the pages with such vibrant and eclectic characters that it's tough not to look on the bright side with them. A quick and refreshing read.
