This book continues the story of Greg Heffley. It is summer and Greg longs to be free of all responsibility, spending his days doing nothing more than playing video games and watching movies Greg's mother has a different plan - an activity-packed summer with plenty of family time. Greg's summer plans hit another snag when his family gets a dog. Greg also "enjoys" a trip to the beach with a friend's family.
This book is incredibly funny! The cartoons accompanying the story are hilarious. Also an extremely fast read. I think Kinney perfectly captures the mindset of many a middle-schooler. I wouldn't teach this book in class, but I would definitely recommend it to any student from 5th to 8th grade. I know my 5th grade nephew loves this series of books. As I've said, it is a very fast, funny and easy read. For these reasons, I think it would be great for more reluctant readers - especially boys. Of course, older students and adults can enjoy it too!
