The premise of a high school boy who intentionally breaks his own bones to get the attention he craves but doesn't get from his dysfunctional family is difficult to read but believable at the beginning of this book. As the book progresses and Jonah unknowingly convinces others in the institution to break their bones, I thought the plot became a little far-fetched. Jesse's character, the brother, was by far the most thought out and likeable. I wasn't surprised after having read the book, to read the short author biography at the end and find that the author hasn't yet graduated from high school. The book's plot and language are a lot like that of a high school student. The ending was a disappointment. Definitely not for the 6th-7th grade students I work with. A lot of swearing.
