This is one of those series' that you think "wow there's 7 books this'll go on forever!" but really, it was over in a blink of an eye! I can see why people are calling for J.K. Rowling to do a spin-off series or something! I'm on the brink of joining them! This series is a work of art, literally and figuratively. I am a hurricane of emotions throughout this book. I simply ADORED the ending but at the same time, I hated it for the sole reason that it represented the end of one of my all time favorite series. I'll stop wallowing in my feelings now and get down to business.
All right. So the characters. I have to say that Harry is my favorite character along with Ginny and then Lupin coming up in close seconds. I know that is so stereotypical of me to love the main character more than the others but I feel like we (as readers) get to know Harry so much more than the others. Yes Ron and Hermione are also main characters but we don't see so much of their deeper thoughts and such. With that said, I feel like all the characters were wonderfully developed according to their role in the plot-line. If all the characters were developed as much as Harry, it would be quite an overwhelming story! In most good books I've read, I've found that the best books always develop 1-2 characters deeply and then going down the levels from there. Also, throughout the series, I definitely saw growth in all the characters. They all seemed to act their age as if Ms. Rowling was drawing on her own childhood experiences, altering them slightly, and placing them in the story.
The plot. The first thing I noticed while reading through this series was the way the books seemed to get thicker and thicker as the series progressed. Now this could be merely coincidental and not at all intentional but my take on this is as Harry grows up and matures, he notices more and more just starts happening because he is coming of age and all his problems are catching up with him (or more accurately, he is just starting to be more aware of his problems with Voldemort). So while he was young, the books are thinner and when he is older and more experienced, the books are thicker. Beyond that, I loved the plot-line. It was the perfect mix of little plots that all added up to the overall scheme that came together perfectly in The Deathly Hallows. Not a lot of series' this long are able to find that perfect mix of subplots and the large plot overall but Ms. Rowling was able to do it.
I realize I'm rambling a little here so I'll wrap it up. If you like young adult or fantasy or just love books at all, I highly recommend this series. I know that when I write, I'll definitely keep the format of this series in mind.
Thank you Ms. Rowling for writing this series and forcing me to learn some things about myself - 5 stars!

“Albus Severus," Harry said quietly, so that nobody but Ginny could hear, and she was tactful enough to pretend to be waving to Rose, who was now on the train, "you were named for two headmasters of Hogwarts. One of them was a Slytherin and he was probably the bravest man I ever knew.”

“There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione's arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.
"Is this the moment?" Harry asked weakly, and when nothing happened except that Ron and Hermione gripped each other still more firmly and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice. "OI! There's a war going on here!"
Ron and Hermione broke apart, their arms still around each other.
"I know, mate," said Ron, who looked as though he had recently been hit on the back of the head with a Bludger, "so it's now or never, isn't it?"
"Never mind that, what about the Horcrux?" Harry shouted. "D'you think you could just --- just hold it in, until we've got the diadem?"
"Yeah --- right --- sorry ---" said Ron, and he and Hermione set about gathering up fangs, both pink in the face.”

“How do you feel, Georgie?" whispered Mrs. Weasley.
George's fingers groped for the side of his head.
"Saintlike," he murmured.
"What's wrong with him?" croaked Fred, looking terrified. "Is his mind affected?"
"Saintlike," repeated George, opening his eyes and looking up at his brother. "You see...I'm HOLEY, Fred, geddit?”

"Six years to the day we met, Harry, d’yeh remember it?"
"Vaguely," said Harry, grinning up at him. "Didn’t you smash down the front door, give Dudley a pig’s tail, and tell me I was a wizard?"

“For instance, this new idea that You-Know-Who can kill with a single glance from his eyes. That’s a basilisk, listeners. One simple test: Check whether the thing that’s glaring at you has got legs. “What are you doing with all those books anyway?" Ron asked, limping back to his bed.
"Just trying to decide which ones to take with us," said Hermione. "When we're looking for the Horcruxes."
"Oh, of course," said Ron, clapping a hand to his forehead. "I forgot we'll be hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library".”

“Luna had decorated her bedroom ceiling with five beautifully painted faces: Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Neville. They were not moving as the portraits at Hogwarts moved, but there was a certain magic about them all the same: Harry thought they breathed. What appeared to be fine golden chains wove around the pictures, linking them together, but after examining them for a minute or so, Harry realized that the chains were actually one word, repeated a thousand times in golden ink: friends . . . friends . . . friends . . .”

“But this is touching, Severus,” said Dumbledore seriously. “Have you grown to care for the boy, after all?”
“For him?” shouted Snape. “Expecto Patronum!”
From the tip of his wand burst the silver doe. She landed on the office floor, bounded once across the office, and soared out of the window. Dumbledore watched her fly away, and as her silvery glow faded he turned back to Snape, and his eyes were full of tears.
“After all this time?”
“Always,” said Snape.”

“Xenophilius Lovegood," he said, extending a hand to Harry. "My daughter and I live over the hill, so kind of the Weasleys to invite us. I think you know my Luna?" he added to Ron.
"Yes" said Ron. "Isn't she with you?"
"She lingered in that charming little garden to say hello to the gnomes, such a glorious infestation! How few wizards realize just how much we can learn from the wise little gnomes — or, to give then their correct names, the Gernumbli gardensi."
"Ours do know a lot of excellent swear words," said Ron, "but I think Fred and George taught them those.”

I think dating opportunities are going to be pretty thin on the ground, to be honest.'
There's a silver lining I've been looking for,' she whispered, and then she was kissing him as she never kissed him before, and Harry was kissing her back, and it was a blissful oblivion, better than firewhiskey; she was the only real thing in the world, Ginny, the feel of her, one hand on her back, the other in her long sweet-smelling hair...”

Draco was on the upper landing, pleading with another masked Death Eater. Harry Stunned the Death Eater as they passed: Malfoy looked around, beaming, for his savior, and Ron punched him from under the cloak. Malfoy fell backward on top of the Death Eater, his mouth bleeding, utterly bemused.
"And that's the second time we've saved your life tonight, you two-faced bastard!" Ron yelled.”
