Love Your God with All Your Mind: The Role of Reason in the Life of the Soul

Moreland suggest that occassionally one should read books above your comfort level. This book fits that category for me. Particularly in the sections that deal with logic, reason, and philosophy. Moreland speaks of training the mind to think in terms of a Christian manner. Some noteabble quotes are "whoever controls the thinking leadership of the chuch in culture will eventually control the church itself." "When people learn what they believe and why they become bold in their witness and attractive in the way they engage others in debate and dialogue." "The university, the media and government are largely devoid of serious religious discussion." Moreland spends some time talking about how to retrain the mind (renewing the mind) to think Christian. General knowlege about the world is important in thinking Christian. When we do Bible study we frequently jumps to personal application before we see what the text says in context. Moreland uses the phrase the 'thinking Christian' to point out that God's call is to our reason. An emotional response to God results in a weak unstable believer as opposed to one who has reasoned out his response to God. He ends the book by saying that "the concept of the senior pastor" has weakened the church. He pointed out that the N.T. style was a group of elders that led the church. Moreland says that the teaching ministry should be shared by more than one leader.
