Tomine is a master alchemist, able to turn what are ostensibly mundane events into evocative stories. He accomplishes what people say Harvey Pekar did with "American Splendor" (but I'm not buyin' it). That, and his simple black-and-white art is very well rendered and complements the text perfectly.
