An insightful treatise from a prominent Early Church Father on the doctrine of the Incarnation. Athanasius also manages to touch upon a number of other doctrines during the course of this writing. For instance, I was somewhat surprised to find a very firm groundwork laid here for the doctrine of the substitionary nature of Christ's atonement, a theme which, centuries later, Anselm of Canterbury explored and developed further in his famous work Cur Deus Homo.
