Unspoken (The Lynburn Legacy, #1)

This is more like a 3.5.
So I think in all sort of fantasy type books, if the main character doesn't start out knowing the big revelation that becomes the whole plot, the beginning is naturally a little slow as they try and figure it out. My problem with this book is that is seemed to be a little too slow. Once I got to the halfway point, I had no problems reading chapter after chapter. And that last fourth! But the first half just went on forever for me. Maybe it's because I've grown so used to fast-paced books that I can tear through in 2 hours, I don't know.
Second, the main character just seemed a little removed from the entire story. Like no real strong emotions were ever displayed, they were only stated if you know when I mean. I didn't feel anything. To me, that doesn't indicate a strong book. Again, maybe this is because that author is trying to write from Kami's perspective as a reporter that is removed from the story.
So with that out of the way, I can honestly say I enjoyed sitting back and comfortably reading this book. It doesn't really make your heart race but that's all right. The plot was fantastic and pretty original though kind of vague (maybe that will be addressed in the next books?) Kami was so funny and her humor along with her best friends was hilarious. And her complications with Jared and Ash were so... I don't know... complex. It wasn't the simple 'oh I've been in your mind for so long but I'll get used to you *kiss*' that's in a lot of other books. They honestly had problems getting past each other and we learn (probably until proved otherwise) that (view spoiler)
Overall, a good effort but could use some developing which will most likely come in the next book! 3.5 stars!
