It's hard to take off the 'Cabaret' lenses when reading this collection of short stories from Isherwood's years in Berlin. I can see how the character of Sally Bowles could be a precursor to Holly Golightly and the starting point for the musical. Many of other charcters were much more nuanced than she was though.

I did enjoy this, but I was left wanting something more.
